RUSSIA: CHIEF OF SARATOV ECONOMIC POLICE goes on trial out of bribery
According to investigators, the policeman got 7 million rubles from entrepreneurs.
The ICR in the Saratov region sent the materials of a criminal case initiated against the Head of the Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption (UEBiPK) of the State Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the region, Dmitry Yelizarov, to the court. He is charged with two corruption episodes, the total amount of a bribe is 7 million rubles. The policeman denies guilt; he keeps the position and rank so far.
According to the investigation, in June 2016, Yelizarov, being the Deputy Head of UEBiPK in the region, received 5 million rubles from an entrepreneur. During the follow-up inspection, the officers seized servers with software for the network of petrol stations, as well as other things and documents. Yelizarov allegedly promised to return everything for money.
In May 2017, Yelizarov, as Head of the Economic Police Department, received 2 million rubles from the founder of a private medical clinic for ceasing the check-up and hiding the violations found. In November of the same year, Yelizarov bought a Mercedes to legalize the bribe received.
Yelizarov was detained on May 31, 2018. At first, he was placed in the SIZO, but in November was transferred under house arrest. The court imposed a security arrest on the property of Yelizarov worth 4 million rubles.
